Music, madness and pain.. lots of pain!

From day one I was always going to be... ahem... slightly unconventional. As a child, in between pretending I was a rock star, giving my Barbies mohawks and riding my ‘motorbike’ (a pink tricycle with ribbons - clearly I had a good imagination), I took great pleasure in asking the patched gang members at our local supermarket why they had writing all over their faces. Those were some of the first tattoos I ever saw. The seed was planted...

Even the private girls’ school I was sent to didn’t manage to stamp it out of me. While other girls were listening to Britney Spears, I was listening to Pantera and Metallica. While other girls hung out at Supre and malls, I was being a pain in the proverbial in the local piercing studio. While they were engrossed in their exam papers, I was doodling tattoo designs on the question paper. There was also an ongoing battle between the school staff and I, where they would confiscate various earrings, and I would turn up the next day with new jewellery, and some fresh piercings to boot.

I had always wanted to be a body piercer one day. However after constantly being told that I should concentrate on getting a ‘real’ job, I had to put my dream on the back burner for a while. And after attempting a university degree (whose bright idea was it to put a bar on campus!? That could only ever end badly!), getting married and starting a family, I finally got my chance. I was trained by and worked with Shane Johnson from Streetwise - incidentally the same shop that I annoyed the bejesus out of back in the day! A better teacher and mentor I couldn’t have hoped for. After meeting and working with Flossy, she convinced me to branch out into tattooing as well. She showed me the ropes, lent me some skin - and I have never looked back.

So that’s us all brought up to date on the past... all that’s left is the future and you can bet that it will be chock full of metal, ink and LOTS of needles! My, that sounds fun...
